Donald Trump won the state four years ago in part because turnout dipped among Black and brown voters in key Democratic strongholds. Joe Biden is trying to energize these voters, but some remain wary.

A slew of arrests in the alleged plot to kidnap the governor of Michigan sends a message to other armed groups agitating for political violence: You are being watched.

"This effort to have a mass uprising nationally is something that we should be very concerned about because, again, it's not just a Michigan problem, this is an American problem," Dana Neseel said.

"I'll be honest, I never could have imagined anything like this," Gov. Gretchen Whitmer says. Over the summer, conspirators allegedly began training for a potential attack.

The state's Supreme Court said Gov. Gretchen Whitmer lacked the authority to extend a state of emergency past April 30. Whitmer had cited two state laws in extending her emergency declarations.

Last month, Hunter King was using a drone to map shoreline erosion for Michigan's environmental department when a bald eagle apparently attacked the vehicle, causing it to crash into the water.

The former employees allegedly sat on Cornelius Fredericks' chest and legs for about 12 minutes. When he became unresponsive, employees at the home waited another 12 minutes to call for help.

The National Weather Service called the event "extremely dangerous" and said it was caused by "catastrophic failures at the Edenville and Sanford dams," located roughly 140 miles north of Detroit.

The legislators say the governor is acting illegally; Whitmer says she is protecting citizens from a global pandemic — and Michigan's attorney general agrees.
